Bread...

A couple weeks ago I decided to try and make some pan de muerto. I have been making my own bread for a couple years now and I'm pretty confident when it comes to sourdough bread, but I haven't used yeast for the longest time and haven't made sweet bread or things like that.

This bread making session started bad... I went to get my groceries and forgot to buy the flour... I had to go to a tiendita to get some. Then I forgot to proof the yeast and after preparing the dough it never raised... I tried saving it with some sourdough starter, but I didn't have much, so I had to feed it and use it prematurely.  I left my bread rising over night with the premature sourdough and it barely raised.

I thought it wasn't going to work... so I just left it there since I had plans to go out hiking again. My plan was to be back at around 12pm, but it was a longer hike and got back at around 4pm, lol. Well, the damn thing raised... I was prepared to try and salvage it by making something like some short bread or cookies or whatever could be done with it.

I prepared it and left it to raise a couple hours more and at night I baked it... it came pretty good for all the errors I made... hell, it came better than I expected even if I didn't screw up, lol. Next week I think I'll try making some more for some friends.

All in all, I think I'm pretty decent bread maker and luckily I have never had complains... except from the mom of a friend that left the bread outside and got way too hard, lol

Roadtrips

As I said in my last post, I have been going out more frequently. This time a couple friends and I went on a road trip to Tamaulipas. it's a little more than 6 hours from where I live, and this is the farthest I have gone on car in my life.

I only drove for like 3 and a half hours, and it felt so cool. I have been thinking on driving all the way to Juárez, but it's like 10 or 12 hours. So this is a good try for when I decide to do it.

I'm also impressed with my car, lol. When I bought it I only did because a friend gave me a good price for it, and I did like how it looks. The level of comfort, how it responds when I accelerate and pass other cars... it just feels so good. Although I still hate to drive near other vehicles, specially trailers and trucks.

Anyway, I have been having a lot of fun, but it's tiring too. I haven't had a weekend by myself in a long time... I feel like I need to stay at home alone for a couple days, lol.

I'll try to upload some pics when I take some

Hiking and other activities...

So, a couple of friends and I already got our second shot of the Covid vaccine, and since then we have been planning on a couple of trips. And although we are aware that that virus is still a threat, we have been trying to go out more. So far, we have gone on two different trips here in Nuevo Leon

This past weekend we went to La Huasteca, which is just like 20/30 minutes from my current home. It was fun, we hiked for like an hour, and I got reminded that I haven't been doing this in a long time. After that we went for some chilaquiles as a treat.

The weekend before that we went to a river that is like an hour and a half away from Monterrey. It was my first time driving that far away, but I enjoyed it a lot, specially since there were not that many cars.

We went to Camping Rio Ramos, it's like a river that goes through the mountains, and there are some places where you can swim a little, we only went this far this time, but there's more to do here.

Late post, sometimes work sucks

So, I was gonna write something different, yesterday I went out with some friends, but yesterday in the afternoon I noticed that a DB that I'm in charge had a problem, and since I'm no longer just a developer, I had to do something.

I have been working all night trying to restore the service and recovering data. Luckily it seems that nothing was lost, but it will take all day to restore and process everything and be 100% again.

I assume this has to be part of being in a leading position and/or responsible for a service...

Anyway, I leave this pictures I took a couple days ago near my house
